A number of universities are tracing the topic of “regiopolises” actively and are conducting research as well.

Currently the subject has found its way to scientific research in six research institutions all over Germany: at the TU Dortmund, the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-University of Greifswald, the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena, the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, the Karlsruhe institute for technology, the University of Kassel as well as the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel. Due to the urban and regional planning background of the Regiopolis concept it is superficially addressed in these areas. However the University of Rostock is, despite the lack of professorship in regional planning, also actively involved in the development of the Rostock regiopolis region. The network of research institutions will continue to expand, with the result that they are constantly in knowledge exchange amongst themselves. The results of the research are also used to give feedback to the regiopolises themselves, allowing them to fall back into their implementation phase to in-depth studies.

Published papers about the regiopolises topic are to be found here.
